The Adventures of Chris

So, I’ve been active on forums, Twitter, and YouTube recently. Here on the blog, not so much. Need to rectify that.

For now, here are the first four parts of my Let’s Play series of videos for The Adventures of Chris on the OUYA.

More captures

Tested out a couple more systems. Below are videos from my RGB-modded Intellivision and my FM sound-modded Sega Master System (both captured via SCART converted to HDMI). Because my capture card only accepts video at 720p or 1080p, the aspect ratio is wrong for the Intellivision capture. I ran into the same issue with the SMS capture, but I edited it in Adobe Premiere Elements to fix the aspect ratio issue (I’ll need to do this with all the videos I capture via SCART in the future).

Now that I have some proficiency with my capture device, I plan on doing some Let’s Play and review videos. I was going to do a Let’s Play video for The Adventures of Chris on the OUYA, but my capture device considers all video output from the OUYA to be protected content and won’t record it. I think I may be able to get around this, though, by recording from my M.O.J.O. (I was able to record the Double Dragon footage without issue).

A few more captures

Okay, so far I’ve tried capturing video from my M.O.J.O., my Dreamcast (via VGA converted to HDMI), my Xbox 360, and my PS3. I’m getting some mods installed in some classic systems I have (the Colecovision, Intellivision, and TG-16), so I’ll test those out soon as well.

New capture device

So, I bought an AVerMedia Came Capture HD II and tried it out tonight with Double Dragon Trilogy (the OUYA version, played on my M.O.J.O.).

Now that I can record video (and commentary, if I so choose), I plan on doing some reviews. I hope to look at some OUYA games first, including some games I’m really excited about, such as Dex.

We’ve got a thing that’s called OUYA love

So, I’ve been playing a lot of OUYA recently (at least, in comparison to the attention I’ve been giving Steam, my Xbox 360, and my PS3). It has me more interested in writing about gaming again, as well as has piqued my interest in learning game design.

Anyway, I should be updating the blog soon with some reviews soon, along with any inane gaming-related musings I may have. Oh, and I really mean “soon” this time, unlike the “soon” in my last post here . . .

My on-again/off-again relationship with gaming

Gaming and I, we go way back. Back to the days when I would play Atari 2600 with my brothers (when they would let me). Back to the arcades I would occasionally get to visit when out with my parents. Back to the NES my dad bought the family the first time we saw it in a store. Back to the Christmas when I received a Sega Master System, the first system that was bought specifically for me (though I later would inherit all of the family’s systems as well). Yup, gaming and I are old friends.

Like old friends, there are times when gaming and I fall out of touch with one another. I get involved with other things that take up my time. Work. Friends. Pets. An so on.

Lately, I’ve become very interested in gaming. I’m even trying to make a gamer out of my best friend so that I have someone else to play with.

Part of my renewed interest in gaming means that I’m going to reinvest in this blog. It’s been sitting dormant for too long.

So, if you happen upon my little blog, be sure to check back. I’ll be adding content soon.
